Thanksgiving

Dennis and Susan, our host and hostess to the left, Michelle and Marni to the right.
David and I were invited to Thanksgiving dinner at Susans and Dennis' house with their family and other cruising frineds. We were invited for dinner at 13.00 and started with cocktails. Susan had produced this amazing spread of food including roast turkey and a big ham, salads, and bakes, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes and more much. It was all rounded off with pumpkin cheesecake and mincemeat pie followed by Kaloa-coffee. Yummy, what a fantastic feast and great company. All to be remembered for a very long time!

Thanksgiving in the USA is an official holiday which was started by the Pilgrim Fathers after they arrived on the Mayflower in the Fifteenth century to the East Coast of the North American Continent. They arrived in November and starved as they ran out of food and became dependant of the natives for supplies.
A year later the pilgrims invited all the indians to a big feast of turkey and corn and all the trimmings to thank them for their kindness. Since then Thanksgiving and turkey dinner has been a tradition for the last thursday in November. Back home we have Harvest Festival and in Canada Thanksgiving is earlier in the Autumn.
